Benjamin Simpkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf Mortuary - St. George on Dec. 17, 2024.
Benjamin Del Simpkins; 43, passed away on December 12, 2024, in St. George, Utah. He was born May 27, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Franklin Delano Simpkins and Sherlyn Jarvis Simpkins. He was a beloved brother, son, and friend to many in our community, and touched the lives of all who knew him with his infectious laughter and empathetic sensitivity.
Ben had many fond memories of his childhood growing up in Boulder City, Nevada, Mesa, Arizona, Salt Lake City and St. George, Utah. Moving around frequently gave him the ability to make friends quickly. He was able to establish trust with complete strangers, often in minutes, leveraging his charming personality and genuine demeanor to provide real help and kindness to those he met. His remarkable ability to build meaningful connections so rapidly was truly a special gift.
While attending Dixie High School in St. George, Ben discovered many of his passions. From the arts to community service, he excelled at nearly everything. He performed in several plays, won drama competitions, and participated in a dizzying variety of clubs and associations. His skills as an actor and comedian were acknowledged by all who saw him perform. Ben won the notable "Diamond D" award, given to those students who achieved high scholastic success while contributing to school culture and life in a meaningful way.
In his early twenties, Ben moved to Cottonwood, Arizona. This would mark a pivotal moment in his life. He met and fell in love with Carmen Patricia Mouritsen, with whom he had two children, Jade and Nigel. He was manager of The Spirit Room, a popular tavern in Jerome, Arizona. He was known and loved by many in the community. Eventually Ben and Carmen parted ways but remained life-long friends.
Always able to find humor in any situation, even death, Ben hoped that he would be remembered for the light of laughter he helped bring into the world. He is survived by his daughter, Jade; mother, Sherry; and brothers: Ryan (Heather), Dan (Susan). He is preceded in death by his son, Nigel; father, Frank; and close friend, Tom.
In accordance with Ben's wishes, no funeral services will be held. The family requests that anyone wishing to share condolences provide a written memory or story, in the true (and hilarious) dramatic fashion we all loved Ben for.
