Bennie Bubba Lawrence Baker Obituary
Bennie Lawrence Baker Jr.'s time to be born was July 10, 1957, to Maecil Johns Baker and Bennie L Baker, Sr. And his time to die was December 10, 2023. Giving him a season of 66 years.
In these 66 years, he accepted Christ and was baptized at East 19th Street Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. M.C. Arnold.
He matriculated through the Austin Independent School District, graduating from L.C. Anderson High School in 1975.
Bennie worked for the City of Austin Street and Bridge for many years until a tragic accident ended his career. He was the first black crossing guard at Pease Elementary School and was dearly loved by the students and parents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maecil and Bennie Baker Sr.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters: Ruthie Mae Baker West and Patricia Baker Guy.
Ruthie, as the eldest, became Bennie's angel here on Earth, making sure he received all the amenities and benefits his season afforded him. Medical and monetary benefits, and more importantly she made sure he lived a life of resilience and independence.
Along with his two sisters, he leaves a host of relatives. Nephews; Antoine West, Oa'Shae West, Sedrione West, Christopher Baker, and William Draper; a host of great nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Rhonda Gail.
A limb has fallen from the Family Tree – I keep hearing a voice that says "Grieve Not For Me." Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions not matter how small. I miss you dearly, go on with your life and don't worry about falls. So keep your chip up, until we're together again.

Mr. Baker was so kind and helpful when I was doing my laundry and needed change, he helped me. He was independent and prideful person but humble. We were neighbors and the news of his passing breaks my heart. I will remember his kindness.
