It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Bennie Vaughn Roulier, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, who departed this life at home, surrounded by family, on September 13, 2024, at the age of 88. Bennie was born on January 25, 1936, in the small town of Perdido, Alabama, to Will and Ethel Barnett Vaughn. She was the youngest of her siblings, who preceded her in death.
Bennie's life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication to her family. She grew up in Perdido and graduated from Bay Minette High School, later pursuing a passion for the culinary arts. It was in these early years that she met her husband, Ron Roulier. Together, they embarked on an adventure, moving to Massachusetts, where they opened a cozy restaurant in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Marblehead Massachusetts, sharing their love for food and hospitality with their community.
Bennie eventually shifted her focus to her family, becoming a devoted homemaker, and later, working as a customer service representative at Sears Service Center for over 20 years. Her warm and gentle nature shone through in her professional life, just as it did with the family and friends.
Bennie is survived by her three daughters, Jeanne Cook, Patricia Roulier, and Lisa Wiktorek and husband, Brian Wiktorek. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight grandchildren, Mike, Tammy, Jesse, Bailey, Emily, Erica, Katlyn, and Michael. Bennie's heart extended beyond her immediate family to her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, each of whom she cherished so deeply.
Bennie was the heart of her family, always ready with open arms, a listening ear, and an encouraging word. Whether it was baking her famous treats, offering sage advice, or simply being there for a warm hug, her presence was a comforting constant. Her love of family was boundless, and she was a vital part of her children's and grandchildren's lives, never missing an opportunity to support celebrate, or lend a helping hand. When time permitted, Bennie 's favorite hobby was reading.
In her memory, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to causes close to her heart: the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or online at www.stjude.org/donate, a botanical garden of your choice, or an animal rescue organization.
Bennie's loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, the joy, warmth, and love she gave so freely will be cherished forever.
Services to honor and celebrate Bennie's life will be held at a later date.
