Benny DeVito Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Torbert Funeral Chapels on Oct. 31, 2025.
Benny Salvatore DeVito, Sr. of Wyoming passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Westminster Village. He was 95, and to date, the "oldest living DeVito," which he was very proud to state.
Benny was born on October 15, 1930, in Manhattan, New York to the late Thomas DeVito and Catina Puccio DeVito.
He served in the United States Air Force retiring in 1970 as a SMSgt. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, where he met the love of his life, Theresia "Hideko," who he cherished his entire life. After the military, Benny went to work for Playtex in production and retired after 20 years. Benny was a handyman "fixer" and took pride in his many house projects, including refinishing his basement, building a sunroom, and making wooden toy trains and planes for his grandchildren. Benny enjoyed collecting coins, baseball cards, and toy trucks. He also enjoyed gardening, hanging out with his dog "Princess Leia" and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Benny was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Theresia "Hideko"; brother, Joey DeVito; sister, Rosalie Dichiaro; and nephew, Joseph Dichiaro.
He is survived by his children, Danny DeVito, Sr. of Oxford (Cindy Piecuski DeVito), NC, Benny S. DeVito, Jr. of Milton, PA (Lyn Bollman DeVito), Michael DeVito of Camden, DE (Karen Iavecchia DeVito), Tina Sander-Loftus of Wyoming, DE (Kevin Loftus), and his brother Anthony DeVito of Woodcliff Lake, NJ; grandchildren, Jason Benjamin DeVito, Danny DeVito, Jr., Alex Thomas DeVito, Jaimie Lyn DeVito, Julia Athena Loftus, Michael DeVito, Jr., Andrew John DeVito, Michael Anthony Sander, Marius Sebastian Sander and Jenna Elisabeth DeVito; great grandchildren, Ava Renee DeVito, Alana Grace DeVito, Joshua Benjamin DeVito.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM, Friday, November 7, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 621 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 PM, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE 19901. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Westminster Village at Dover and Delaware Hospice.

Where to start.I only worked with Benny for 7 years at Playtex. He was my mentor for a short time but never far away that I couldn´t call for advice. I observed personal calls to his children as He let them know how he felt about decisions they were planning . I say this because he was a great Father .He was respected at Playtex because he was fair.I think his "smile" drove people crazy . At his retirement party he said he always wanted to be inside the Drivers section of the Tractor part of the trailers and he did. What a great laugh for us. Sorry for your loss . Chuck Carlin

Benny was a family friend and mentor for me while we worked together at Playtex. My mother and his wife, both Japanese, were the best of friends. I will always be thankful to Benny for his guidance and loyalty. He and my father were both Air Force retirees and good friends. Benny will missed by all who knew him.
