Benny Yanko, 77, passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2025, at his home in Centreville, Maryland. He was a loving husband to his wife of nearly 37 years, Jane Yanko. Born in Germany, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and sister in 1950 and lived most of his life in New Jersey. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was immensely proud of his Ukrainian heritage, and thoroughly enjoyed traditional Ukrainian foods, especially his mother's homemade pierogies. He had an appreciation for classic cars and architecture and enjoyed listening to Doo Wop music.
Benny is preceded in death by his parents Iwan and Kataryna Janko, sister Sophie (infant) and great grandchild Luke (infant). He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane, his children, Edward Yanko, Peter Yanko and wife Kelly, stepdaughter Katie Metzger and husband Christian, and grandchildren, Abby Yanko, Jake Yanko, Rees Yanko and Trevor Metzger. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Mary Silver and husband Edward, Shanya Gerena and husband Severo, Irene Pardey, Tanya Yanko and fiancé Ed, and 2 sisters-in-law, Lesley Titchmarsh and Susan Haywood, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital via the link below.
