Bernadette "Bernie" Silva, lifelong Bridgeport resident, entered her eternal rest July 3, 2025 at the age of 79. Born in 1946, she was predeceased by her parents, Manuel Silva and Gerarda (Jennie) Viola Silva, her beloved aunt, Ida Viola, and her brother, Robert Silva. Survivors include her nephew, Robert Silva Jr. of Corpus Christi, her niece, Stacey Lund of San Diego, two grand-nieces, Danyelle and Emma, and two great-grand nephews.
Bernie worked more than 30 years at Southern New England Telephone, beginning as a telephone operator and later managing projects and call centers. Known for her dedication and attention to detail, she carried those same qualities into a personal mission beginning in 2003: writing thousands of letters and sending care packages to U.S. service members in combat zones. Her generosity extended to numerous charities, especially those serving the military, veterans, and those in need.
She loved reading, music, meeting with friends, and photography. She was especially fond of Christmas, when she filled her home with decorations and gave beautifully wrapped, thoughtful gifts. Her cheesecake and honey cake were often-requested favorites.
Bernie will be dearly missed and remembered for her quiet strength, fierce independence, and wry humor.
Friends are invited to attend graveside service on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
