Bernadine Magdaline (Weimann) Buresh
October 25, 1928 - October 3, 2025
Bernadine Magdaline (Weimann) Buresh, 96, passed away peacefully in Fremont, Nebraska on October 3, 2025, with family by her side.
She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a devout Catholic. She was also the co-owner of two businesses in Fremont with her husband Robert, and was a dedicated church and community volunteer. Bernadine embraced kindness, determination, and acceptance. She was selfless and funny, with a sweet smile and a welcoming hug for the many people who loved her.
Bernadine was born on October 25, 1928 in rural Snyder, Neb., the only child of Albert and Rose (Tichota) Weimann. She grew up on a farm and she and her parents attended St. Mary's Church in Tabor, Neb.. At three years old she contracted polio, which affected her right arm throughout her life. Even in her later years she remained resilient and strong.
In 1942, the family relocated to Fremont for her eighth grade year. In Fremont, she forged a connection with a circle of friends that lasted a lifetime. Bernadine graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1947 and attended Midland College for one year. She then moved to Omaha to work at Omaha National Bank where she specialized in accounting, a skill she used her whole life.
In 1952, she met Robert "Bob" Buresh at the Music Box Dance Hall in Omaha. They married on June 27, 1953 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and moved there in 1954. She then started working at Fremont National Bank in the trust department. Soon after, they welcomed the first of their seven children. Bob went to work for Bernadine's father, Albert, at Weimann's Bar; he and Bernadine bought the business in 1973. In 1986, they started Bob's Trophies, running it from the bar for a year before remodeling the space and operating the shop full time. They retired in 1992.
Although most of her time was spent maintaining the family home and caring for their children, Bernadine also worked part time at Weimann's Bar and was a 4-H leader, a Red Cross volunteer, and a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas local court, "Queen of Angels." She worked for a time as an independent saleswoman for Luzier cosmetics. Her favorite item was face cream and she encouraged her clients and her daughters to apply it morning and night, saying, "You can never apply too much cream!"
Although Bernadine never learned to swim, she took her children to swim lessons and drove the family ski boat. She and Bob also enjoyed travelling to visit their children and grandchildren, never missing a high school graduation. In 1996, they took a heritage trip to Rychnov nad Knezou in the Czech Republic to visit family and tour the site where Bob's great-great grandfather was born. She loved watching the sun set, whether on the Texas coast, over Lake Michigan, at Lake Hamilton in Arkansas, at the Jersey Shore, or in her hometown of Fremont.
Bernadine was predeceased by her husband Bob, and her parents, Albert and Rose Weimann.
She leaves behind her children, Diane (Tony) Pollock, Cheryl (L. Joe) Dickmeyer, Daniel (Nanette) Buresh, Paul (Jana) Buresh, Keith Buresh and Laurel Hoitsma, Mary Buresh and Tom Jelinek, and Dale (Krista) Buresh. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Bryce (Jodi) Dickmeyer, Nicole Dickmeyer and Robert Fisher, Erica (Tyler) Ketchem, Christopher (Mandy) Buresh, Heather Buresh, Casey Buresh and Megan McKillip, Kory Buresh, Kyle (Cynthia) Buresh, Holly (Michael) Dodd, Sammi Buresh, Roni Buresh and Jason Munro, Zane Buresh, Michael Jelinek, Marilyn (Dustin) John, Rose Anderson Buresh and Riley Anderson, and Gage Buresh. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Ava, Thomas, Elliot, Bridget, Lily, Clara, Rachel, Adam, Avery, Aniston, Beau, Sage, Myla, and Magnolia.
