Bernard "Bernie" Esboldt, 80, of Mitchell, passed away at 5:40am on Monday, July 28, 2025, at his residence.

Born July 20, 1945, in Cedar Lake, IN, Bernie was the son of Emmett Esboldt and Celia (Snell) Esboldt. He married Elizabeth Homan on November 13, 1999, and she survives. Bernie was a member of the St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Mitchell and was a graduate of Crown Point High School. Bernie retired from Bethlehem Steel and enjoyed painting, playing the organ, and golfing.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Homan Esboldt; stepson, Joshua (Shasta) Shope; stepdaughter, Samantha (Jay) Modi; five grandchildren, Samir, Divyana, Adam, Olivia, and Damon; nephew, Rob (Don) Esboldt; sisters-in-law, Sue Esboldt and Sharon Cook; brothers-in-law, Martin (Sandra) Homan and David Homan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Celia Snell Esboldt; first wife, Arlene; two children, Martin Esboldt and Karen Esboldt; and one brother, Robert Esboldt.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church with Fr. Jegan Peter and Deacon David Reising officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, with the Rosary to be prayed at 7:00pm at the Chapel.

Contributions in memory of Bernie may be made to the Tootsie Roll Drive for Knights of Columbus or Hoosier Uplands Hospice.
