Bernard D. Hostler, 93, of Grand Island, Neb., died on Friday, January 31, 2025, at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home with Derek Apfel CFC, officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Bernard was born on June 12, 1931, at Doniphan, Neb., to William "Bill" and Ruth (Cole) Hostler. He grew up in Doniphan graduating with the class of 1949. He was united in marriage to Mary Schroeder on June 10, 1956, at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bernard owned and operated Shoes Inc., before becoming a full-time farmer. Bernard co-owned T&B Sales & Farm in 1981, and retired in 2018. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.

Bernard enjoyed traveling and gambling at the casino. He also found enjoyment in buying, fixing, and selling tractors. After retirement, he enjoyed time spent with his coffee group.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Steven Hostler, of Alda, Neb.; Jerry (Marla) Hostler, of Grand Island; and David (Cindie) Hostler, Central City, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Elaine Hostler; four brothers; and seven sisters.
