Bernie J. Houle Jr., beloved father and cherished grandfather, passed away on June 13, 2023, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharlene Houle, his sister, Carol Whitehill, his mother Leona Headlee, and his father, Bernie Houle Sr.
Bernie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his surviving children: Christine Houle, Bernie Houle, Cathy Houle (Bernie's wife), Michelle Lindahl, Eric Lindahl (Michelle's husband), Joan Ray, and Brian Ray (Joan's husband). He is also survived by his brother, Dan Houle, and his wife, Darleen. Bernie was a devoted father, and his love and support will be greatly missed by his children and extended family.
Bernie was also blessed with six adoring grandchildren: Danny Houle, Lexi Lindahl, Ada Lindahl, Adon Lindahl, Amanda Ray, and William Ray. He had a special bond with all his grandchildren and found great joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories.
Fond memories from his children include Bernie taking them swimming on summer afternoons, camping adventures, and reading them bedtime stories before they drifted off to sleep. He deeply cherished his time with his grandchildren and delighted watching Hallmark movies with them.
Professionally, Bernie had a successful career at Control Data, where he worked at one of the first robotically controlled hard drive manufacturing facilities. Later in life, he ventured into entrepreneurship and became a small business owner. Bernie's determination and adaptability were commendable, and he faced challenges head-on.
A funeral service will be held on June 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church, located at 15353 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE 68154. Visitation will be the evening of June 27, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. with a wake at 7 p.m. at the Pacific St. Chapel, family and friends are invited to attend and pay their final respects to Bernie.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities of Omaha. Bernie had a giving spirit, and contributing to this organization would be a fitting tribute to his memory.
Bernie J. Houle Jr. will forever be remembered for his love, kindness, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his family members and those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.
