Bernard P. Lindner

Bernard P. Lindner, age 65, of Goodwin, SD, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home near Goodwin, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, SD with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Kranzburg, SD.
Bernard Peter Lindner was the third son and fourth child born to Sylvester and Myrtle (West) Lindner of Goodwin, SD on September 24, 1957. He attended grade school in Kranzburg and high school in Clear Lake.
Bernard shared his broad shoulders and height with his grandfather, Pete Lindner, also known as P M. Bernard played football and was on the wrestling team for the Clear Lake Cardinals, graduating in 1975. Being raised on the farm, he had a great love of animals, in particular, horses. He might have been a horse whisperer.
After graduation, he joined his father and mother on the family farm. Sylvester passed away in 1979 of an apparent heart attack. Bernard and his mom continued the family operation with the help of his siblings. With the passing of his father, Bernard became the fourth generation of Lindners to operate the homestead farm. Bernard had numerous Lindner, West, and Goddard relatives that settled in Codington and Deuel counties. He shared either the middle name or the first name "Peter" with numerous Lindner relatives.
As Bernard got older, he became less active in the cattle and small grain operation and rented out his land. Both his father, Sylvester, and Bernard passed away suddenly at the age of 65.
If you wanted to summarize Bernie, you might say: he was a hard worker, helped his neighbors, was honest, soft spoken, and most importantly took care of his mother when she was a widow for twenty years.
Bernard is survived by his brother, Ralph Lindner and his sister, Marilyn Lindner; his nieces and nephews: Travis Lindner, Shane Lindner (Cari), Maggie Lindner (Steve Andrews), Jennifer Lindner (Brian Parisi), and Laura Perkins (Matthew); his great-nieces and nephews: Ali, Brianna, Chase, Kaden, Violet, Kaidynce, Alex, Lucas, Caitlynn, Norah and Callen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Myrtle Lindner and his brother and sister-in-law Jim and Jane Lindner.
