Bernard "Ben" Mallett, 88, passed away Sunday, March 2, at Avantara Redfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 on Wednesday, March 11, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Church in Mellete, SD.
There will be a time for luncheon and fellowship following the service in the church parish hall.
Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Bernard Jerome (Ben) Mallett was born April 17, 1936, in Bristol, SD, to Harold Wayne and Juliana (Schuring) Mallett. He grew up and attended school in Andover, SD, where he graduated in 1954. Prior to graduation, he excelled in football, basketball, and track and field, winning many medals and ribbons along the way.
Ben went to work building roads with his Uncle Joe for the next four years. Many times, he would be riding the motorcycle with his wife Jo and turn and say, "I built this road".
Ben was drafted into the US Army on December 9, 1958. He spent a year in Korea and a year at Ft. Lewis in Washington. After being honorably discharged from the US Army on December 8, 1960, Ben spent the next year working road construction in Andover, SD.
In the Fall of 1961, he moved to Chelsea, SD to be closer to the love of his life – Jo (Reed) Mallett. Ben started his career working at the Chelsea Grain Elevator for Bill Gange. This was the beginning of 50+ years in the grain elevator business.
Ben was united in marriage to Jo Reed in Chelsea, SD at Sacred Heart Catholic Church February 11, 1964.
Ben enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and motorcycling with his family and friends.
Ben is survived by his wife Jo of 61 years; his children, Cabrini (David) Chamberlain, Suzanne Mallett, Patrick Mallett, Sean (Erin) Mallett; grandchildren, Cody (Taylor) Chamberlain, Amanda Chamberlain, Michael Chamberlain, Ben Warren, Samantha Warren, Thomas Mallett, Brookelynn Mallett, Jordin (Jacob) Puppe, Braydon Mallett, Josie Knoell, Cooper Mallett, and Ryann Mallett; great-grandchildren, Lochlan Chamberlain, and Oakleigh Puppe. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Juliana; his brothers, Bob and Rich; and his infant sister, Lone.
