Bernard J. McKenna

Bernard Joseph McKenna of Naples FL, formerly of West Chester, PA & Drexel Hill, PA joined the angels on June 7, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1920, he was the son of the late Bernard J. and Grace (nee O'Boyle) McKenna and the brother of the late James J., the late Bernard J., and Joseph A. of Brookhaven, PA. Bernard was married for 49 years to the love of his life, the late Elizabeth Mary (nee Rabbitt) McKenna. Bernard was a graduate of Southeast Catholic High School and St. Joseph's College earning a BS in Chemistry in 1943. He served honorably during World War II with the rank of Lieutenant (JG) with the Beach Jumpers, a special operations unit of the US Navy. After the service, he worked as a Chemist for Philadelphia Rust Proof and as a President of Modern Hard Chrome SGL Industries. Bernard was the loving father of Michael J. McKenna (Beth) of Bradenton, FL, the late Thomas Anthony McKenna, Kate McKenna McGinnis (Jim) of Naples, FL & Timothy I. McKenna (Linda) of Boothwyn, PA. He was the grandfather of Bernadette, Michael, Jr., Cortney, Karen, Matthew & Amy & the great-grandfather of Charlotte, Jackson, Logan, Hailey, Carter, Chase and Philip IV. Relatives and friends are welcome to join in the celebration of Bernard's life at a Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00AM at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1325 E Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA 19380. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bernard's name may be made to SS Peter & Paul Catholic School, 1327 E Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380.
