BLISSFIELD-Bernard "Bernie" Peter Shusta, age 89, of Blissfield, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born October 30, 1934, in Hanover Twp., Pennsylvania to Peter and Anna (Stretanski) Shusta. On May 2, 1959, he married Shirley Ann Isabell in Detroit MI. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2013. Bernie served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his Honorable Discharge he worked as a Contractor and Civil Servant for the United States military. He finished his working years at Riverview Terrace Apartments in Adrian Michigan. Bernie was a member of the Light of Christ Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) serving on the Council and Assembly. He has been a member of Alcoholic Anonymous since June 1980.
Bernie is survived by five children: Roseanne (Tom) Finley, David (Eileen) Shusta, Suzanne (Greg) Woods, Carolyn Shusta, and Rebecca Shusta; 11 grandchildren: Amanda, Marie, Theresa, Victoria, Meghan, Kimberly, Kayla, Bradley, Daniel, Kathryn, and Anna; 11 great-grandchildren: Cate, Tyler, Brooke, Madeleine, Joseph, Patrick, Grayson, Connor, Evelyn, Raelynn, and Andrew; and a sister-in-law, Linda Shusta. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents Peter and Anna, and his brother Ronald.
Visitation for Bernie will be at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at Light of Christ Parish - St. Peter The Apostle in Blissfield on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Father Jeff Poll will be celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow.
