deCaro, Bernardina (Fortini), 94, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at the home of her daughter. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Carlo and Angelina (Carlino) Fortini. She was a music teacher at the Hugh B. Bain School in Cranston for 15 years where she served as the head of the music department and choir director and retired in 1981. When she retired the yearbook was dedicated to her and the music award was named after her. Prior to that she was a substitute teacher in the Cranston School Department and taught Music, Italian and English. Mrs. deCaro was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and received her Master's from Boston University. She also received a Master's degree in Italian from the University of RI. She was one of the founders and first president of St. Bartholomew's Mother's Club and was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Church for many years. A devout Catholic she was a communicant of St. Kevin Church. Mrs. deCaro was devoted to her family and was the beloved mother of Charles J. "Chuck" deCaro, Rachele R. "Bunny" Feiler and her husband Michael and Paula R. "Teddy" deCaro-Copley and her husband Christopher and beloved grandmother of Jonathan L. Feiler and his wife Carrie. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday April 17 at 10 A.M. in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane followed by burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the following would be appreciated: Salvation Army, 1121Warwick Ave., Warwick, RI 02888, www.salvationarmyusa.org, or the Fisher House Boston, PO Box 230 South Walpole, MA 02071. Fisher House provides housing for families of wounded soldiers.
