Bernice H. Benton, 93, made her heavenly transition on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Southbrook Healthcare Center, Springfield, OH
Bernice was born in Springfield, Ohio on Dec. 20th, 1930 to Rachel and Lindsey Humphrey, Sr. She retired from Wright-Patterson AFB, OH where she was employed for many years. Bernice loved the Lord and was a former member of Greater First Baptist Church before becoming a dedicated member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Springfield until her time of departure. Sis. Benton served as both the financial secretary and on the Kitchen and Dining Committee for many years. She loved to decorate the church and took great pride in all that she did. She also loved her family, gardening and planting beautiful flowers.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; faithful and loving husband Thomas W. Benton; her beloved son and daughter Michael N. Couts and Michele B. Couts; sisters, Elzona Bufford and Clara Higgins; brother Lindsey Humphrey, Jr.; and granddaughter TaKesha R. Couts. She leaves to cherish her memory granddaughters Tiffany N. Couts, Urbana, Tiara M. Couts, St. Louis, Mo. and Andrea Couts-Ragland, Marysville; grandson Maudi Crowley, Springfield; several great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; special friend, Vivian White; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
