Bernice D. DeFlora (nee Sturno), 95 of Wyckoff, NJ (formerly of Waldwick) died peacefully on December 11. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Joseph DeFlora, her parents Carmenantonio Sturno and Rose Bellarmino as well as her sister Edna Sturno and brother Joseph Sturno.
Bernice, a/k/a “Bunny” grew up in Paterson, NJ. After graduating as Valedictorian from St Bonaventure HS, she began working at NJ Bell Telephone in Paterson. A few years later she met her husband Joe, who was in the navy, on a blind date. They married in 1954 and moved to Newport RI where he was stationed. From Newport they moved to Lodi and then Paterson before moving to Waldwick where they lived for 60 years and raised their six children.
Bernice is survived by her six children Barbara Hosmer(Christopher), Kenneth DeFlora, Nicholas DeFlora(Amy), Janice Tuohy(Peter), Ellen Sciortino(Anthony) and Joseph DeFlora(Stephanie) as well as 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a brother, Gerard Sturno (Patricia) of Allendale.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 9:00-10:00 am at Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, NJ. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 am. The final dispostion will be private.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made in her name to Christian Health Care, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
