Bernice Dey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC - Sturgeon Bay on Sep. 23, 2025.
Bernice Hazel Dey, 91, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully, Friday night, September 19, 2025 at Cardinal Ridge CBRF in Sturgeon Bay with family at her side.

She was born on December 13, 1933 in Knowlton, WI, to William John Daul and Frances Viola (Glover) Daul. As a child, Bernice, her parents, and sisters traveled extensively throughout the United States as her father performed carpentry work around the nation. She graduated from Mosinee High School.

Bernice married Darwin Dale Dey on September 19, 1953. She and Darwin shared over 52 years of marriage. He passed away January 23, 2006.

Bernice was a very loving and dedicated mom with six children to care for. Bernice enjoyed being a mother; she was especially skilled at sewing and making comfort food, with homemade rolls and chocolate eclairs being a couple of her specialties. Bernice was a problem solver and could pick up a hammer as easily as a serving spoon. Teaching her three boys and three girls to all cook and problem solve was second nature to her. Bernice also worked alongside family members on the family farm.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dale; and sisters; Alice (Charles) Valiska and Annabelle Hyrkas.

She will be greatly missed by three daughters, Crystal Dey, Mary (Tim) Wright, and Sue (Mark) Fearson and two sons, Bill (Sally) Dey and Dan (Ruthy) Dey. Bernice was proud of all of her children and especially enjoyed her eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She loved them all.

No public services will be held.

"Our family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Cardinal Ridge in Sturgeon Bay for many years of wonderful care (and cookies!) and the special attention from Unity Hospice staff. Your help through the years has been invaluable and so appreciated."
