Our beloved Mama received her wings this past Monday morning.
Bernice Ward Huff, 88, passed March 31, 2025 at Alamance Regional Health Care in Burlington after a long battle with health issues. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many in her lifetime. She enjoyed life and cherished her family.
Mom enjoyed talking and sharing stories with anyone. She was born and raised in White Cross community, daughter of a tobacco farmer, and the last of 50 Grandchildren of Adolphus and Sarah Ward. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Mom enjoyed music and dancing from a very early age thanks to her parents who were active square-dancing team. She loved all of Elvis Presley’s music and taught her grandson Brandon the ear for Elvis’s tunes as well.
Mom enjoyed many family trips over the years to the mountains, especially the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have cherished memories of many of those outings.
Mom worked for the A&P company for 20 years, then spent another 20 years in the Registrar’s office at the University of North Carolina. After retiring in 1988, she enjoyed her free time and the pleasure of sleeping in on most mornings.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Frank Linnie Ward and Maude Durham Ward, brother Horace Ward and sister Jesse Ward Cheek, her husband of a short 15 years, William Gregory (Dub) Huff, her son, Gregory Julian Huff, (Teresa Luck), daughter Debbie Ann Huff, (Michael Perkins), her beloved grandson, Brandon Robert de Friess, her sister in law, Thelma Adams Ward, several nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Annette Hughes.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 3, 2005, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church; 1707 White Cross Road; Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Funeral services will be held at Antioch on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
