Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelsey Funeral Home - Albemarle on Jan. 14, 2026.
Our Father who is wise and merciful, called Bernice Phifer Wiggins to eternal rest, Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Bernice was born June 29, 1954, in Stanly County, North Carolina; and was the beloved daughter of Bishop Robert and Prophetess Mary Stanback Phifer. Bernice enriched our lives and brightened our days. She was a ray of sunshine, a smile and laughter that filled a room with warmth. May God hold her in the palm of His hand.
She received her formal education in the Stanly County Public Schools and attended Kingville High School. With a heart of service and care, Bernice attained her nursing assistant certification from Stanly Community College, Albemarle. She was employed in the private duty nursing care industry for over twenty years.
Reared under the ministry of her father, Bernice accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a dedicated member of Phifer's Temple No. 1, Albemarle and Phifer's Temple No.2, Bishopville, South Carolina. There she and her sister played the drums and sang in the choir. Bernice had a beautiful angelic voice that everyone enjoyed. She, her sister and two other friends founded the Templaries Singing Group.
Brave in spirit, strong in love and determination, Bernice found joy in cooking and baking cakes. She created beautiful and savory cakes that led her to starting a cake baking business, Ms. "B's" Cakes. She also owned and operated a perfumery business. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends, creating memories filled with love, laughter, and warmth.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, LaShawn Phifer, and other loved ones.
Always in our hearts, forever remembered and loved, Bernice leaves cherished memories with her husband, Melvin Wiggins; daughters: Erica (Shawn) Dixon, Terica Phifer, and Rhonda Wiggins; sons: Walter Pruitt and Christopher Wiggins; great grandson, Akari Snuggs, who was reared in the home and the apple of Bernice's eye; grandchildren: Anita Dixon, Treshawn Dixon, Braxton Phifer, Denise Wall, Ariel Wall, and Joseph Wall; fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Prophetess Elaine (Maceo) Scott; nephews: Robert Scott and Keion Marshall; great niece, Ashley Marshall; in-laws: Mary Griffin, Frances Kornegay, and Darrell Wiggins; special cousin, Lorraine Watkins; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bernice's legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the faith she demonstrated, and the love she freely gave. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever
remain in our hearts.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
