Bert W. Anderson Jr., 91, of New Britain and formerly of New Port Richie, FL, husband of Sally (D'Amore) Anderson, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Connecticut State Veterans Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill. Born in New Britain, son of the late Bertle W. Anderson Sr. and Frieda (Windish) Anderson, he was a graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1951. He attended Hillyer College and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bert was employed by Marlin-Rockwell in Plainville for 27 years and later was a Connecticut State Liquor Control Inspector until his retirement in 1994. Bert served his community as a New Britain supernumerary police officer for eight years, was a New Britain Alderman for 18 years, and served on the Democratic Town Committee. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in New Britain; and was a passionate NY Yankees fan. Bert was also a member of the DAV; volunteered as a coach in the Fagan Little League; was a former president of the Smith School PTA; and was a member of the Varpas Club, Swedish Club, and New Britain Elks Lodge #957.
Besides his wife Sally, he is survived by three sons, Mark Anderson and his wife Sue of Kensington, Scot Anderson and his wife Lisa of Wethersfield, and Bryan Anderson and his wife Pam of New Britain; a daughter, Lori-Ann Bove and her husband Gene of Wethersfield; a sister, Carol Hansen of New Britain; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Bert was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Bouchard.
Calling hours will be held Friday (November 15, 2024) 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:30 PM at Col. Raymond Gates Cemetery in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Recreation Fund c/o Connecticut State Veterans Home and Hospital, 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
