Bertha (Machuga) deVarennes Bertha Machuga deVarennes, 82, passed away on July 8th at Sunrise Senior Living with her loving family by her side. Bert was born August 13, 1934 in Struthers, a daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine Zoblisein Machuga. She was a 1952 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from Case Western Reserve University and Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. She was a dedicated teaching nurse working in the field for over 40 years. She married the love of her life, Richard Delano deVarennes on February 23, 1963 who preceded her death in 1987. They were residents of Tega Cay, South Carolina where she was also elected mayor pro tempore. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother George Machuga of Alaska. She will be deeply missed by her brothers Harry (Rosemarie) Machuga, Stephen (Janice) Machuga of Youngstown and her sister Maryann (Ronald) Porter of Destin, Florida and many loving nieces and nephews. Bert's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living and Crossroads Hospice for the wonderful care she received. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bert's memory to Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, Ohio 44685.

Bert and I graduated from nursing school together in 1958.
She was my maid of honor in 1959.
She was my sons God mother.He was born in 1962. We stayed in touch over the years.After Dick passed communication slowed down but did not stop.
Her last letter to me was to explain why she could not attend our 50 wedding anniversary. We spoke by phone a. Few times after that and then no contact. I often talk about Bert to my family and
Lately she has been on my mind daily.
Had I know of her passing before today I would have reached out to her family.
Bert was a friend and sister to me. I could share so many stories about
On years in school and beyond.
To her family I share your pain in her passing. Sincerely
