Bertha "Bert" Chalona Fontaine was born on November 8, 1919 and passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the age of 94. Beloved mother of Chalon Fontaine, Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr and the late Edgar Benjamin Fontaine, III. Daughter of the late Paul Chalona and Bertha Bulot Chalona. Grandmother of Cameron M. Payne, Sarah Payne Ferguson, Laura Fontaine Etienne, Nathan Fontaine, Christian Fontaine and Hannah F. Barr. Great Grandmother of Riley Payne, Beckwith Payne, Piper Payne, John Etienne, Alex Etienne, Montgomery Ferguson and Cash Cooke Ferguson. A native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. Bert was the supervisor of the appointment desk at Ochsner Clinic for many years. She was a member of the New Orleans Country Club, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the New Orleans Woman's Club and the Literary Guild. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Edna Brown, faculty at Chateau de Notre Dame and Dr. Stacy Siegendorf for the love, care and support that was given to our mother. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation and funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Monday, February 10, 2014. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM followed by a service in the chapel at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Louise S. McGehee School, 2343 Prytania Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
