Bertha Jane (Bergdall) Patton was born February 27, 1933, and died peacefully February 24, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on a farm near Meno, Oklahoma, the fourth of five children in the Omar and Mary Swartz Bergdall household. She attended Forrest Home School and then transferred to Ames High School where she graduated in 1951. While in school at Ames, she met Charles "Chuck" Patton, and they were married February 8, 1952.
Bertha worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator for two years before quitting to raise her young family. She later attended Phillips University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 22 combined years at Coolidge and then Hoover before she retired in 1992.
She is survived by two children: Susan Jeanette (Glen Hoskins) of Edmond, and Charles Dale (Debbie) of Enid; two grandsons: Travis (Katie) Patton, and Kyle (Liz) Patton, all of Enid; and four great-grandsons: Austin, Teagan, Ayden, and Kaden; as well as sister Betty Crabtree of North Ft. Myers, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck, siblings Keith and Paul Bergdall and sister Ruth Ehmke.
Services will be held Saturday, February 28th at 1:00 pm at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid, followed by burial at Ames Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Arbors and Hospice Circle of Love for their compassion and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice Circle of Love or a charity of your choice.
