Bertha Reddick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown's Funeral Home - Plainfield on Dec. 19, 2025.
Bertha Reddick was born in Blakely, Georgia on March 30, 1944 to the late Mercia and Willie Reddick. The family moved to Newark, New Jersey when Bertha was 9 months old.
Bertha was educated in the Newark public school system. After graduating from high school, she attended evening classes at Essex County College where she received her Associates Degree in Business. Continuing her education was not an option as she was determined to achieve her educational goals. Bertha then attended Bloomfield College and on May 27, 1989, she was awarded and received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Finance.
Bertha resided m Belleville and Montclair, New Jersey before moving back to Newark in 1990. Her and her daughter, Gina Yvette joined First Baptist Church of Nutley in 1976 where they were baptized together. Bertha was appointed Trustee (Treasurer) in 1997 She retired from that position in 2004 and was reappointed Trustee (Treasurer) in 2012.
Bertha sang in the renowned Angelic Choir for many years and she loved "her choir," as she called them. She loved her church and began preparing a monthly Newsletter for the church in 2011. Bertha loved the Lord and knew that she could not do anything without Him. In her greatest times of need, joy and sorrow, Bertha relied on her love and faith in the Lord to bring her through the journey of "life."
Bertha had lifelong friends and cherished each and every one of them for well over 50 years. She would do anything for her friends. She loved playing Pokeno, going to the Vineyard, and let's not forget the Casino. She loved to laugh and have fun. Her laughter filled a room and was contagious. Those of us who spent time with her know that Bertha would liven up any event. She made us all reflect on the "good times."
Always ready to help anyone who needed it, Bertha was a thoughtful, kind, analytical, and a very caring person who always tried to look at the other person's point of view before forming an opinion, commenting or becoming upset. She loved her family and was dedicated to them. Whenever and whatever the occasion, she was always available for her family as well as her extended family.
As she was affectionately called The Matriarch of the family, she was respected and depended on by her family to bring them through good times as well as tough times. Bertha was the stability and we will truly miss our Birdie. Although she became overwhelmed sometimes, she never complained.
She raised her nephew from the age of thirteen and by coincidence her niece came to live with her for a few years at the same age of thirteen.
Bertha retired from NJ Transit Corporate Office as Manager of Capital Programs, where she worked for 24 years with a staff of five. She loved her job and the people she worked with. Even at work, Bertha was the go-to person whenever there were concerns that could not be resolved by her staff as well as her peers.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mercia Reddick, her beloved daughter Gina Yvette (Reddick) Hubbard whom she loved dearly, one sister, Louise Cureton, three brothers, Willie Jr., Harold and Calvin.
She is survived by her beautiful granddaughter, Faith Hubbard, her beloved brother Aaron Reddick, two nephews, Harold Archie and William Wright, one niece, Latifah Wright, three great nieces and three great nephews, her son-in-law, Tony Hubbard and her dear friend for over 50 years, Paul Jones and many dear fnends.
