Edwin Goldman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Portland Jewish Funeral Home on Jan. 26, 2026.
Edwin Walter Goldman passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2026. He was born April 27, 1930, in Plainfield, NJ and then moved to 1185 Park Ave. in Manhattan. His family later moved to New Rochelle in Westchester County, NY. Ed summered with his family in Rangeley, Maine, and attended Kennebec Camp in Maine.

Ed attended Manliest Military school and then went into the Air Force. He was the first enlisted man in the Air Force to put on the blue uniform. It was especially made for him as they had always worn khaki.

Ed was a radar specialist. He then went to work for IBM for years. He later moved back to Manhattan and worked for NBC where he met his beloved wife Sandra R. Modes Goldman. They married and had a daughter, Lisa. The family moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where he worked for Harts Mountain to open up pet shops because of his love for all animals and then moved to Indianapolis, Ind. to open up Ralston Purina stores. Then back to Queens. NY, Ed worked at Corvette department store and the famous department store Abraham & Stress before moving to Maine where his wife was from. He opened a pet shop on Alan Avenue called Pet Village because he loved animals so very much. He worked for Maine National bank where he retired from.

Ed attended every Yankee game in the 50's, 60's and early 70's, his beloved team. Lisa went along to many of them with him. Ed was a die-hard Yankee fan. He loved model trains and he went to a convention twice a year in Pennsylvania. He loved to travel. Ed went to almost every National Park with his daughter by Amtrak. His favorite destination was Key West; he and his daughter went there six times. He adored his grandson.

Ed is survived by his daughter Lisa Dewey and son-in-law Chuck Dewey of Portland, and grandson Charles Derek Edwin Dewey.

There was nothing more important to him than his family. They were his entire world. He loved his Boston Terriers that he had his entire life, all named Bingo. He loved gardening and life itself.

A Funeral will be held Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. at The Jewish Funeral Home, 471 Deering Ave., Portland, Maine. A graveside burial immediately following. A Reception will follow the burial at the Dewey's home.
