Bertha Lucille Smith

Bertha Lucille Smith born on December 15th, 1926 and passed away peacefully at Conway Villa Wellness and Rehab (formerly Delmar Gardens Creve Coeur) on February 5th, 2026 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Elizabeth Smith (nee Porter) and her sisters Mary Levison, Georgia Thornhill, and Carol Woodson. She is lovingly remembered by her son LaRoy F. Smith, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Bertha worked for 25 years for the State of Missouri Department of Social Services. After retirement, she worked independently for several years offering Tax Preparation and Notary Services.

Bertha especially enjoyed traveling for her notary conventions around the county. In town, she enjoyed and looked forward to day trips with friends from her bank club. She enjoyed word search puzzles and watching all sports (but mostly Cardinal games, Tiger Woods playing golf, Serena and Venus Williams tennis matches, and ice skating competitions) and soap operas on TV. Her favorite food to make and share at group events was deviled eggs.

Most of all, Bertha was a loving and devoted mother to her son, LaRoy who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis early in his adult life. She provided care, love and dedication.

LaRoy would like to thank St. Louis Hills Assisted Living, Country Villa Wellness and Rehab (formerly Delmar Gardens Creve Coeur) and the Homewell Care Services and AccentCare hospice teams all whose staff took care of Bertha toward the end of her life.

Appreciation is also sent out to Maria O'Berry, Valerie Gillum and Sharon Parker, cousins who provided much-needed care to Bertha; and thank you to Hamilton, Weiler and McBride family members who offered a variety of help throughout the past 25 years.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Church, 1210 Paddock Dr., Florissant, MO 63033 on Friday, March 13 beginning at 10:00 for the visitation followed by an 11:00 am service. A private inurnment will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of your choice is preferred.
