On December 14, 1939, the blessing of a baby girl, Bessie McDowell was born to Leetha Johnson and
Willie B. McDowell. Bessie grew up and went to school in Linden, TX (Cass County). She joined and
was baptized at Sunrise Baptist Church.
In 1949, Bessie moved to Dallas with her mother, Leetha Johnson. In her young adult years, she
joined Evangelist Temple and served faithfully there until she joined Greater Gospel Temple under
the leadership of Elder Kelly Davis. In her later years, Bessie joined Fourth Avenue COGIC until the
name change to Last Covenant COGIC where she faithfully served under the leadership of Pastor
Terry Gafford until her health failed.
She will now join her parents, Willie B. McDowell and Leetha Butler; son, Larry "Wolf " McDowell
and niece, Carla Leverne McDowell.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and auntie leaves to cherish her
memories: daughter, Carolyn Harbor; son, Jerald Turner (Rachel); daughter-in-love, Loyace Renee
McDowell; brother Willie Joe McDowell, sister-in-love Dorothy McDowell; five granddaughters,
Larrime Hinton, Brannigan Childress, Karmesha Rubalcave (Nick), Jer-Rin Turner, Keana Turner,
grandson, Keavin Turner (Jalana); three great-grandsons, Jordan Rubalcava, Jackson Rubalcava,
and Zhair Turner; two great-granddaughters, Johnya Childress and Zaa'liyah Turner, niece, Cynthia
Norman (Calvin) and nephew, Marcus McDowell (LaTasha); a special sister/cousin, Catherine
Whitfield and host of family and friends.
