Bessie Smith Obituary

Bessie "Bess" Smith, born on Dec. 17, 1932, in Manchester, N.H., passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.

Bessie worked at Eagle Fruit, her father's store, as a girl. She graduated Manchester Central High School in 1950.

After graduating, Bess worked for the phone company until she married in 1960. She also worked many years for Sears and Roebucks and the VA Hospital in Manchester.

She and her sisters, Kay, Val and Mary, loved the beach. "Nena" would sing together with her grandkids, songs like "You Are My Sunshine" and "A Bushel and a Peck". Memories to last a lifetime.

Well liked by her friends and adored by her family, Bess will be fondly remembered and severely missed.

She is survived by sons, Doug and Dave; grandsons, Dan, Greg; granddaughter, Vivienne Goodwin-Smith; great- grandchildren, Hallie and Wyatt Smith; nieces and nephew, Linda, Cindy and Gary, Tracy, Stephanie and Scott; grandnieces Kate, Kiana, Kylee and Alexis; grandnephew, Sean.
