Funeral services honoring the life of Mrs. Alice “Betsy” Childs Calhoun will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. The burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery. Bro. Bob Jameson will be officiating the services with Scott Calhoun assisting.

Betsy was born to Robert Lee and Lillian Lane Childs on April 28, 1941, in Carson, Texas. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 3, 2026, in Homer, Louisiana, with her loving family by her side.

Betsy was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She and her husband, Cal, were traveling partners through his career in the Air Force for 20 years. From the time Betsy met Cal, they were inseparable. Cal was an airman at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, TX. While moonlighting he dressed as an ape at a gas station to bring in customers. Betsy on a date with another man, pulled right up into his heart and he asked her out. When picking her up for their first date, he asked her dad, “Uhh. Uhh is she here?” Her father shut the door and told her mother, “Hell, that boy doesn’t even know her name!” Cal swept her off her feet and they spent the next 64 years traveling the world-living in England, Alaska, New Mexico twice, Texas, and Louisiana. It was always Betsy, Cal, Angela, and Chris. Extended family was only seen a few days before shipping out to the next post. After 20 years in the Air Force they retired to Bryceland, LA. Starting yet another adventure in this life. They took each challenge, good and the bad together. Living their lives to the fullest.

Betsy enjoyed baking, ceramics, crocheting, and mowing, until Cal got a zero-turn mower. Betsy’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and a grandmother.

Betsy is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lillian Holmes Childs, her brother Robert “Dickie” Childs, and her sister Billie “Peggy” Juanita Kvestad.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Carrol Gene Calhoun, daughter Angela Merritt, and son Chris Calhoun and wife Cathey, grandchildren Cynthia Bordelon and husband Matthew, Christopher Calhoun, Jr., Lillian Merritt, JP Merritt, Caitlyn Fitzmorris and husband Johnny, and Alivia Merritt, adopted grandchildren Amanda Mosley and Cam’Ron Murphy, great grandchildren Madeline, Amelia, and Nathaniel Bordelon, adopted great grandchildren Riley, Carson, and Kady Moseley, and by so many precious cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Honoring Betsy as pallbearers will be Matthew Bordelon, Christopher Calhoun, Jr., Johnny Fitzmorris, Jeffrey (JP) Merritt, Rodney Taylor, and Micah Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Cam’Ron Murphy, and all her loving nephews.

Many thanks for all the love and care shown by Bristol Hospice specifically Donita Vinson, Carolyn Roberson and Reverend Jeff Smart. Presbyterian Village in Homer, LA. for all the loving care shown by each and every staff member and residents. Please accept our heartfelt love and Thanks!
