January 20, 1943 – January 16, 2024
Betsy A. Stone, age 80, a lifelong resident of Monroe, entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at her home under hospice care.
Betsy was born to Myron and Alice (Barber) Ross on January 20, 1943. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold E. Stone, on April 14, 1962, at the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. At the time of his passing in 2020, they had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Betsy loved traveling, crafting, attending church at the First Baptist Church of Monroe, spending time with her friends and family, and donating her time and talents to various charities. Betsy was very active in the Relay for Life Organization, spending many hours crafting jewelry to help raise money for that cause. She also loved cheering on her favorite teams: The University of Michigan Wolverines, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Lions.
Betsy's career was spent working in the retail grocery business, retiring from Kroger after 41 years of dedicated service.
Surviving Betsy are her daughter, Debbie Marek; granddaughter, Andrea Kuhn; sister-in-law: Mary (David) Barnard; brother-in-law, Charles Stone; aunt, Florence Alarie; cousins, George Brown, Joyce Morris, William Morris, Mark Morris, and families; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, friends, and acquaintances. Also survived by special friend and dedicated caregiver, James Coppedge.
In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by husband: Harold Stone; sister: Jean Savoda, and brother-in-law: Louis Stone.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, January 19, 2024, at First Baptist Church (1602 N. Custer Road, Monroe, MI, 48162) from 3 to 5 pm. A funeral service will begin at 5 pm. Officiating is Pastor Kim and Cindy Semran. A private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial in Betsy honor may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at www.cancer.org or to the National Autism Society at www.autismsociety.org
