Bette Jeanne Cooley, 81, of Lake Charles, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at her residence with her loving family by her side. Bette was born on August 9, 1943, in DeRidder, LA. to Winfred and Ezora Callaway.
Bette enjoyed the simple life, but she was far from simple. She held a master’s degree plus 30 in Education and used her knowledge and easy spirit to help guide, mold and teach countless children through the years. Not only was she an educator in school but her love of teaching, together with her love of Jesus Christ, lead her to teach Sunday school and start a ministry for the deaf at the First Pentecostal Church of DeRidder.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years Larry Cooley, son; Craig Cooley and wife Tina, brother; Terry Callaway and his wife Judy.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, October 18, 2024, from 9:00AM until 11:00AM at the Apostolic Temple, 2711 W. Prien Lake Rd. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM with the burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery in DeRidder, LA. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home.
