Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stewart Family Funeral Home - Tyler on Nov. 25, 2023.
Bette Anne Huff King went to be with her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on November 22, 2023, at the age of 94. Born January 29, 1929, to V.A. Huff and Pearl Huff, Bette grew up in
Wichita Falls, Texas. She attended Midwestern Junior College and the University of Texas. Following college, Bette and her mother Pearl went on a European tour where she met her future sister-in-law, Jill King Ramey. Bette married Jack Martin King on September 13, 1952, they had three children, were active in the Tyler community, and traveled the world for 56 years together.
Bette was a member of the Junior League of Tyler, the Tyler Junior Garden Club, the Gertrude Windsor Garden Club, and a board member of the Tyler Museum of Art. Her love of gardening was evident in her beautifully maintained garden that is listed in the Garden Club of America Collection in the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution as the "Royal Tulip Garden". She graciously opened her backyard to anyone requesting photographs and an enlarged picture of her garden was displayed for many years in the dining room of McAlister's Deli Restaurant.
While Bette loved gardening and being active in her community, her true passion was sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. For over thirty years she taught Sunday School at Marvin Methodist Church. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and she met weekly with the Marvin Prayer Warriors to pray for the needs of their congregation. She made certain that our family Christmas celebrations focussed on the importance of God's son Jesus, voluntarily taking on flesh, laying down his life to pay the price for our sin, so that we may rise from the dead as He did and enjoy eternity with Him. Her parting words to her family were "Always remember the most important thing in life is knowing the Lord."
Bette is preceded in death by her parents, V.A. and Pearl Huff, her husband, Jack Martin King, her brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Jeannie Huff and her brother-in-law, Thomas B. Ramey Jr. She is survived by her son, Jack Martin King, Jr. and his wife Debra Brillhart King; her daughter, Caroline King Wylie; and her daughter, Elizabeth King Chilton and her husband Thomas Scott Chilton; and her sister-in-law, Jill King Ramey.
Her surviving grandchildren are Jack Martin King, III and his wife Frances Duncan King; Jacquelyn King; Katherine Noel Wells and her husband Ryan Wells; Mary Caroline Wylie Reynolds and her husband Tyler Reynolds; Virginia Lane Wylie Clark and her husband Tyler Clark; Thomas Scott Chilton, Jr. and his wife Anne Buckthall Chilton; and Claire Elizabeth Chilton.
Her surviving great-grandchildren are Grace Caroline King; Harriet Holotik King; Frances Perry King; Poppy Mae Wells; Tyler Bennett Reynolds Jr.; Ginny Ann Reynolds; Caroline Elizabeth Clark; and Thomas Scott Chilton, III.
The family will receive visitors at Stewart Family Funeral Home on Friday, December 1st between 5pm and 7pm.
A memorial service will be held at Marvin Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2nd at noon.
