Bettie Sue Smith

October 10, 1945 – August 26, 2025

Bettie Sue Smith, age 79, of Raritan, NJ, entered eternal rest on August 26, 2025. She was born on October 10, 1945, in Burlington, North Carolina, to the late William and Daisy Tate.

After graduating from Jordan Sellers High School in 1963, Bettie moved to Newark, NJ, later settling in Rahway, where she raised her family. After many years of dedicated service at PSEG, she retired in 1999 before making her home in Scotland Neck, NC.

In 1964, Bettie married the love of her life, Walter Cary Smith. Together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing in September of 2023, building a lifetime of love and partnership.

Bettie was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church in Rahway, NJ, where she sang in the Emergency Choir for many years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Debbie A. Smith and Donald A. Smith; her daughter-in-law, Sandee L. Smith; and her cherished grandson, Donovan S. Smith. She is also survived by her sisters, Mrs. Flossie Bigelow and Mrs. Onnie Lewis (Bentson); her goddaughter, Valerie Jackson Rodriguez; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Bettie's signature sass, quick wit, and humor will live on in the stories and smiles of those who loved her.
