Betty Joyce "Jo" Alford

Betty Joyce ("Jo") Alford, aged 90, of Cary, NC, passed away on July 3, 2023. Born in Ellerbe, NC, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe L. and Lillian Blackburn Bennett. She graduated from Ellerbe High School in 1950, and attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Edison M. Alford; sisters, June Edwards, Peg Young, and Merrill Luckey; and brothers, Al Bennett and Richard Bennett.
She is survived by her children, Amy Alford Northup (Chris) of Cary, NC and Eddie M. Alford of Greensboro, NC; granddaughters, Dr. Amanda Northup (Patrick) of Charleston, SC and Kelsey Northup (Simon) of Cary, NC; great-grandchildren, Lauren Avery Northup and Wyatt Lucas Northup of Charleston, SC; and brother, John Bennett (Kay) of Summerfield, NC.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staffs of HeartFields at Cary, Templeton of Cary's Swift Creek Health Center, WakeMed Cary Hospital, and Transitions LifeCare.
A private graveside service is to be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, Cameron, NC. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hillmon Grove Baptist Church general fund, to Transitions LifeCare, or to the charity of one's choice.
