Betty Baker Obituary

Betty E. Baker, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Kimball, Nebraska, on September 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on June 9, 1929, in Enid, Oklahoma, Betty lived a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to her family and community.

A proud graduate of West High School in Denver completing her studies in 1948, which laid the groundwork for a life of continuous learning and engagement. Betty dedicated 30 years to her career at JC Penney, where she worked in the wigs and lingerie department and later retired.

Betty was an avid crafter, devoted to sewing and crocheting. She lovingly created all of Claudette's prom dresses, ensuring that every stitch was filled with care and attention. Her family treasures the beautiful afghans she crafted, each one a testament to the countless hours she spent knitting warmth and comfort into their lives.

Betty's interests extended well beyond crafts. She was a passionate bowler and a lover of picnics in the mountains. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, exploring many European countries, which enriched her life and broadened her horizons.

For a decade, Betty volunteered as a docent at the Molly Brown House, always in costume, bringing history to life for countless visitors. She also embraced her role at the Lakewood Heritage Center as a schoolmarm. She also modeled for Westernaires fashion shows. Betty loved to cheer on her Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.

Deeply involved with her children, Betty was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years and served as a Boy Scout den mother for six years. Her leadership extended to the education system, where she proudly held the position of president of the Westwood Elementary School PTA. Betty’s compassion and commitment to her community were further exemplified by volunteering as a ski guide for blind children, showing her immense heart and dedication to helping others.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Claudette (Duwayne) Sundet, and her son, David (Sharon) Baker. She will be missed by her four grandsons, two step-granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren—a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard "Bill" Baker, and her son, Robert Baker. Betty E. Baker and a beloved granddaughter and grandson. She leaves behind cherished memories and a profound impact on her family.
