Betty Jo Barnes Luttrell

After 87 years on earth, Betty Jo Barnes Luttrell was called home on January 23, 2023, at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, VA after a long, heart-breaking period of physical and mental decline inflicted on her by vascular dementia. She was born on December 31, 1935, a New Year's Eve baby, in Richlands, VA.
Betty was a Richlands High School Class of 1953 graduate and was a nurse at Mattie Williams Hospital in Richlands, VA. She is welcomed to heaven by her parents, Margaret Lucille Brown Barnes and Harvey George Barnes; and she joins her husband, Gerald Lance Luttrell.
She leaves behind her loving daughters, Lori Luttrell of Richlands, VA; Lisa Luttrell Johnson and husband, Sid of Richlands, VA; her only son, Larry Luttrell of Pounding Mill, VA.
Betty took good great joy in her four grandchildren, Lauren Johnson Miley and husband, Ryan of Troutville, VA; Katie Johnson Wess and husband, Darrell of Pounding Mill, VA; Nikki Luttrell LaPointe and husband, Curtiss of Knoxville, TN; and Zach Johnson and wife, Charity of Blountville, TN. Additionally, Betty leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Canaan, Brennan, Lacey, and Treyton Wess, and Maddox Miley.
Funeral services for Betty Jo Barnes Luttrell will be conducted Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Doug Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, in Claypool Hill, VA. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Luttrell family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
