Betty Lou Barnett, 89, of Petersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, after a courageous six-year battle with colon, pancreatic, and lung cancer. Born in 1936 to Everett and Dovie Leffler, Betty grew up in Monroe City and graduated from Monroe City High School. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strength and love touched everyone around her. She was a faithful member of the Brenton Chapel Church of Christ in Petersburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Lowell Barnett; sisters Velma Scott, Ella Mae Cockerham, and Dorothy Andrus; brother Everett Wayne Leffler; grandson Lathe Wayne Barnett; and granddaughter Jocelyn Barnett.
She is survived by her children: Tammy Barnett Selby, Terry (Connie) Barnett, Tony (Cindi) Barnett, and Tim Barnett. Betty’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Logan (Kim) Selby, Terra (Phil) Knust, and Beau (Jill) Barnett; and her seven great-grandchildren: Wakeston Gray and Redding Lowell Selby, Ciera Brill, Parker and Llinkyn Knust, and Blaine and Braelyn Barnett.
Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, resilience, and the deep love she shared with her family. Her life was a testament to strength and grace, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Services for Betty will take place at 1 PM EST on Saturday, December 6, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. Visitation will be held from 10 AM EST until service time. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
