Betty Beavan Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 9, 2026.
Betty Jean McKinney Beavan, 99, of Idamay, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2026.

She was born on April 16, 1926, in Hammond, West Virginia, the oldest daughter of Roxanna Ruth Sayer of Monongah. Betty married Bryan L. Beavan, Sr., of Idamay, and together they made their home there for more than 50 years.

During World War II, Betty worked at the Monongah Company Store while her husband served his country. She later became employed at Owens-Illinois, where she worked faithfully for 17 years before retiring.

Betty was a woman of deep faith whose life was marked by service to others. She attended Trinity Assembly of God and Calvary Temple Church. She loved gardening, cooking, shopping, reading, and studying the Bible. For many years, she lovingly cooked and served others, living out her faith through quiet acts of generosity and dedication.

She leaves behind two children: Bryan L. Beavan, Jr., of Weston, West Virginia, and Constance Jean Huffman (Bill Huffman) of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Laura Shreves (Michael Shreves) of Fairmont, Jason Basnett (Teresa Basnett) of Four States, Melissa Beavan of Tampa, Florida, and Joe Bodsia of Ohio. Betty was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Charlotte Beavan.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bryan L. Beavan, and her sister, Mary Margaret Lewis.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Fazio's Elderly Care and WVU Medicine Hospice, with special thanks to Pastor Will for his support and care. Sincere appreciation is also given to King's Chapel for their faithfulness in prayers, gifts, and visitation over the past five years. A special thank you is offered to close friends and prayer warriors Clara Abbott and Bonnie Fast for their unwavering love and support.
