Betty Lou "Babe" Bemiss, age 96, of Fayette, formerly of West Union passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.
Betty was born on April 24, 1928 in rural Hawkeye, Iowa to John Milton and Bessie Mae (Hawks) Cline. She attended country school in Eldorado and West Union, graduating from West Union High School in 1945. She attended Paris Beauty Academy graduating in 1946. She then worked in the Beauty Profession for 42 years. Betty was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union in March of 1940.
On June 27, 1947 she married Calvin Bemiss and two children were born to this union, Deborah M. Coleman and Kurtis C. Bemiss. Calvin passed away unexpectedly in 1981 and Betty continued to raise the family and work. She always walked everywhere. After retiring she continued her volunteer work and delivering meals to people. She also was a beautician at Burnham-Wood funeral home for many years.
Betty is survived by her son Kurtis C. Bemiss; son-in-law, Stanley Coleman; grandchildren, Eric (Kari) Coleman, Amy (Thomas) Wright, Stacey (Chad) Regennitter and Graig Bemiss; twelve great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Sharon Cline.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Calvin; daughter, Deborah; parents, John and Bessie; granddaughter, Carrie Anne Coleman; brothers, Robert Wayne, Kenneth (Bea) Hawks and James; sisters, Mildred (Oliver) Westpfahl, Lorraine (John) Huss, Genevieve (Clarence) Weitenhagen and Virginia Fedeler.
Visitation will be Friday, July 19, 2024 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Lori Kleppe as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is assisting the family with services.
