Betty Blaser, 93, passed away on December 11, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday December 19, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan, IL. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan IL
Betty Lou Blaser was born to Ethel and Innis O'Connell on March 29, 1929. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1947. Betty and Mel were united in marriage on June 19, 1947. She has been a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan holding various leadership positions in the church, such as Sunday School superintendent, Women's Club President, and chairing various committees. Betty was a member of the Trinity quilters who made quilts for the elderly and underprivileged.
She was a stay-at-home mom for many years until her children were in school. She then was employed as an Underwriter at Modern Woodmen Insurance. After Retiring from there she still attended many of the Retirees functions.
Betty has always been active in bowling, swimming, and golf. She participated in the Senior Olympics earning 5 gold medals, one in each Bowling and Golf, and 3 in Swimming, holding a national record in swimming. She has had a hole in one and, also finished in 1st place in the Women's Super Senior Golf tournament held in Sebring Florida. Betty and Mel spent many winters in Maui Hawaii and then in Sebring Florida.
Betty had a large family who she hosted for every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. During the summertime she enjoyed spending time in her pool with her family. Betty was a lifelong Cubs fan who enjoyed watching sports. She especially loved attending her Grandchildren's and Great Grandchildren's sporting events and activities.
She is survived by 3 children, Pam Versluys Pearson (Bill), Kathy Bollinger (George), Mel Blaser (Susan). 11 Grandchildren; Jason Bollinger (Jennifer), Chris Tennant (Dave), Jennifer Petersen, Josh Bollinger, Tommy Normoyle (Melissa), Andrea Smith (Dave), Nathan Mandle, Tucker Blaser (Anna), Carrie Montague (Jake), Tyson Blaser (Holley), Zachary Versluys (Kaylin). 26 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren; sister, Margie Gwaltney.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Ethel and Innis, husband Mel, and daughter Marci Mandle.
Betty will be missed by her Grands who will miss Grandma Greats cookies and popsicles by the pool.
Memorials can be made to Milan Trinity United Methodist Church or Milan Christian Food Pantry.
