Betty Jean Bolt, age 71, of Farmville, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 30, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born October 28, 1954, to the late Forrest and Mabel Rakes of Dillwyn.
Betty Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Douglas Bolt, and their daughter, Stacy Bolt Goss (Andrew) of Appomattox, along with her two precious grandsons, Wyatt and Lucas, the absolute lights of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Dale Bolt, father-in-law Hasten Bolt, mother-in-law Flora Bolt, and adored family pets, Sundance and Duck.
A 1973 graduate of Buckingham County High School, Betty Jean married Douglas, the love of her life, in 1974. Their marriage centered around God and withstood the test of time among many blessings and losses. Their greatest joy arrived in 1990 with the birth of their daughter, Stacy. A dedicated homemaker and stay at home mom, Betty Jean also supported the family business through her secretarial work for Bolt Sawmill & Farm.
Her favorite and most cherished role, however, was becoming “Gaga” to her grandsons. She delighted in every moment spent with Wyatt and Lucas—talking about their love of trains and helicopters, sneaking them sweet treats, and cheering for them in everything they did. Betty Jean found great joy in cooking and baking for family and friends. Her famous yeast rolls once earned her the Grand Champion Ribbon at the Five County Fair. Her canned sweet pickles, deviled eggs & chocolate chip cookies were all family favorites. She enjoyed shopping, tending to her beautiful flower gardens, and feeding & watching the birds daily that gathered outside her window.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7 Our hearts rest in the promise that we will meet again in our heavenly home.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the many friends and family who supported Betty Jean during her health battles this past year. Your kindness, visits, meals, prayers and care meant more than words can express. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their attentive care over the past three weeks.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11am in the chapel at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. Friends are invited to join the family for a lunch to follow the service at Appomattox P. E. Presbyterian Church located at 198 Church Road in Prospect.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Southside SPCA or Appomattox P.E Presbyterian Church.
