Betty Gay Shurbet Cartwright, loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend, passed away on November 1, 2025. Betty was born in Winfield, Texas on November 26, 1937, daughter of Tom and May Brown Shurbet and sister (Sis) to four older brothers, Charles, Marshall, Bob and Ray. Betty is survived by son, Wayne Cartwright of
Norman, Oklahoma; daughter Donna Koeppe and husband Edwin of Stillwater, Oklahoma; granddaughter Anne Koeppe and daughter Paisley of Stillwater, Oklahoma; granddaughter Rachel Koeppe, wife Lacy and daughter Lennon of Cypress Texas; and Granddaughter Sarah, husband Harley and sons Zachary and Harley II of Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Carol Meyer of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Cartwright, her parents and her four older brothers.
Betty grew up in Winfield on the family farm and then in Mt. Pleasant, Texas where her dad worked at the FINA refinery. After graduating from Winfield High School, Betty and Doyle married on April 7, 1956, and began their wonderful married life spanning almost fifty-eight years together living in Duncanville, Marshall, Commerce, and Garland, Texas before moving to
Norman, Oklahoma in 1971. Betty was a very active wife, mom and homemaker. In the late 1970's she went to work outside the home where she became the top salesperson for John's Jeans in Sooner Fashion Mall in Norman and then manager of the store for a number of years and then worked for County Seat, also in Sooner Fashion Mall. She was a valued employee at Wrights IGA for many years, and beloved by the store's patrons.
Betty loved big, cared deeply, appreciated life's blessings, was brave when needed and secure in her faith in God.
The family will be available to greet friends during visitation at Havenbrook Funeral Home in
Norman, Oklahoma from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025. A memorial service will also be held at Havenbrook Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025.
