It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Betty Sue (Ward) Cozens. Betty passed away peacefully in her home in Las Vegas, NM on 10/01/25 at the age of 94.
Betty was born on 2/15/1931 in Stella, Missouri to Ewell and Hazel (Nickelson) Ward. She graduated from Midway High School, Stark City, Missouri in 1949. She grew up with the values of love, resilience, and devotion to family woven into her, and these lessons stayed with her, shaping the woman so many came to love.
In 1950 she married Orman Roy (Corky) Cozens, her partner in love and laughter, in Clayton, New Mexico. Together they built not only a home but a legacy, a place where family gathered, stories were shared, and traditions were born. They raised 4 children, who became the center of her world. Later came the blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, each one welcomed with the same boundless love. A meal at Betty's table was more than food, it was warmth, laughter and family. Her special talent of sewing was not only her passion but a gift she gave freely to others. She also enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles on her IPad, and watching sports (including football and golf). She lived with a spirit that was gentle yet strong, quiet yet full of wisdom, and her presence was a comfort to all who knew her.
Betty and Corky moved to Las Vegas, NM from LaCrosse, Kansas in 1965. They both worked at New Mexico Highlands University. Betty worked in the Admissions's Office for 28 years before retiring, making many lifelong friends along the way.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Orman Roy (Corky); parents, Ewell and Hazel (Nickelson) Ward; four younger brothers-Bob, Dale (Marlys), Jerry (Kathy) and Sherman; and son-in-law Tom Greer.
Survived by her children Suzanne Lopez (Edmund), Richard, Michael (Guinevere) and Kyle F. Greer; her sister-in-law Evelyn Ward; and her grandchildren Matthew Lopez (Rachel), Mindy Lopez Cunningham (William), Devon Cozens Diner (Alexander), Jeri Lyn Mourning Manzanares (Peter), Janet Johnson-Hardy (Pat), Jason Greer (Nancy), and Tanya Greer Hersom (Justin); and numerous great and great-great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Anvoi Hospice Care for their caring and compassion.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM 87701, 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
