Betty Lou Douglass, age 93 of Amarillo, died February 27, 2026 in Amarillo.
Betty was born in Avery County, North Carolina on September 25, 1932 to her parents, Edward and Pansey Carpenter. She married Billy Eugene Douglass in Plainview on July 14. 1958. They were married for the next fifty-eight years, sharing a life until Billy's Passing in 2016.
Betty loved to read and took great joy in collecting bird figurines. She was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her grandchildren and found her greatest happiness in time spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dewey, Frank, Claude and Cline Carpenter; her daughter, Deborah Hays; and by her husband, Billy.
Betty is survived by her daughter Michele Horn and her husband Juergen of The Colony; her son, Earnest Douglass of Amarillo; her daughter-in-law, Kim Douglass; her brother Brown Carpenter; her son-in-law, Robbie Hays; her five grandchildren, Amanda, Kaitlin, Tanner, Annaliese, and Ashley; and by her great-grandchild, Skyler.
The family suggests that memorials in Betty's memory be made to the BrightFocus Foundation to fight macular degeneration, a link can be found below.
There are no services scheduled at this time. The family will celebrate and honor Betty's wishes privately at a later date.
