ROCKY MOUNT – Betty Sue Harris Davis, age 90, was received unto her Savior on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Brekenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount. Born in Pitt County, NC on March 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Albert Whitney Harris and Ruth Irene Haskins Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George W. "Buck" Davis, Jr., and her sister, Nancy Harris Thomasson, of Sunset Beach.
Betty Sue graduated from Greenville High School and Atlantic Christian College, and she was married at her home in Greenville. She and Buck were members of First Christian Church in Wilson and Rocky Mount, and later at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, where she worshipped and served for 36 years. Betty Sue enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in Bible studies, leading First Place, and giving to others through mission projects and offerings. Through the years, she also enjoyed fishing, playing golf, painting, needlework, family vacations to the beach and the mountains, rooting for the Tar Heels, and spending time with her beloved friends.
Betty Sue is survived by her four children, Susan Davis Beddingfield, George "Bo" Sullivan-Davis and his wife, Jane, Sarah "Sally" Davis Whitley, and Whitney Davis and her husband, Sam Marsh; her five grandchildren, Kristen Learned and her husband, Rob, Ward Beddingfield, Sadie Ruth Sullivan-Davis and her husband, Drew McGavran, Cristina Sullivan-Davis, and David Whitley; and her five great-grandchildren, Rose Learned, Robby Learned, Jack Learned, Lily McGavran, and Heidi McGavran.
A Celebration of Betty Sue's Life will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, 3732 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church.
The family wishes to thank Dr. David Browder, who attended to their mother for decades, as well Nash UNC Hospice and Palliative Care. The family is thankful for the care and support that the staff at Brekenridge provided during her last years in room 126. She was content there, and she "bloomed where she was planted!"
