Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Hayden (née Parker), age 81, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in
Knoxville, Tennessee, after a lengthy hospice journey. Born on December 3, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, Betty was the beloved daughter of Lewis and Louise Parker. She was raised with a deep sense of family and resilience-qualities that defined her life. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert "Bob" Hayden; her cherished son, Robert "Bobby" Hayden Jr.; her parents; and her sister, Claudia Parker. Betty's life was a testament to love, strength, and unwavering dedication. As a proud Navy wife, she stood beside Bob through his military service with grace and fortitude. Together, they built a life grounded in commitment and care. For more than thirty years, Betty managed five rental properties, a reflection of her industrious spirit and determination. Yet, no matter how full her days were, family always came first. She is survived by her loving daughter, Robin Young (Larry) of New Tazewell, TN; her son, James Hayden (Sabina) of Panama City, FL; grandchildren David Young, Alex Young (Ashley), Logan Sitarski (Maddy), and Maggie Hayden; and great-grandchildren Connor, Logan, Easton, Owen, Cooper, and Luke. Betty also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless "adopted" family members who affectionately called her "Mom." Betty's zest for life was contagious. She delighted in travel and adventure, and found joy in the simple pleasures-playing Uno, sharing stories, and laughing around the kitchen table. Her quick wit and warm smile lit up every room, making all feel welcome and loved. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty's legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured with boundless love. Her home was a haven of laughter, games, and unconditional support. Special gratitude to the caregivers at Sacred Ground Hospice House and UT Hospice for loving Betty like family while giving her the best care. And to David, her grandson, who shared a special bond with his Grandma and whose dedication and presence made all the difference, especially the last few years. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, July 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel, 5301 Fountain Road,
Knoxville, TN. A service will follow at 6:00. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Honorary pall bearers include: Larry Young, David Young, Alex Young, Logan Sitarski, John DeJarnette and Jon Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Betty's memory to Sacred Ground Hospice House, either online at https://sacredgroundhospicehouse.com/donate/or by mail to 1120 Dry Gap Pike,
