Betty Mae Hedrick

Betty Mae Hedrick, 88, of Vero Beach, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Betty lived her life with a radiant smile and a heart full of faith.

A woman of deep devotion, Betty read her Bible every day and walked through life knowing she was never alone. She was a woman who enjoyed being the center of attention, a trait that served her well when she was crowned Miss Florida Hospitality.

Betty's passions were simple and soulful. She loved the sound of country music, the beauty of her plants, and the comfort of cooking "good old Southern food" for those she loved. On Friday nights and Saturdays, you could find her cheering louder than anyone else; she was arguably the #1 fan of the Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians and a dedicated supporter of Tim Tebow.

She is survived by her three children: Gary Applegate Jr.; Tandy Applegate Brazie, and Toni Applegate Kouns.
Her legacy of love continues through her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Betty is now peacefully reunited in Heaven with her brothers, Ernie Morris and Max Hedrick; her son, Kyle Applegate; and her grandson, Chad Kouns.

Though our hearts were not ready, we take comfort in knowing she is resting in the hands of the God she loved so dearly.

In keeping with Betty's wishes, her family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chad Kouns Memorial Scholarship.
