Betty Hoffmann, 81, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Jan. 14, 2026, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John, her son, William (Laura), son Benjamin (f. Simone) in Germany, and her beloved granddaughters, Hannah and Natalie Hoffmann, Noa-Grace Hoffmann, Carrie Szymanowski, and grandson Kyle Szymanowski, a brother, Mikel Smith, sisters Eva Smith and Anne Blocker, Aunt Mary Ergle, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tony.
Betty was an active, longtime member at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, travelling, and playing games like Phase 10 and Scrabble. Betty had been a teacher's aide for many years at Crisman Elementary School in Portage, Indiana, so she could be near her boys, who meant the world to her.
A direct cremation has been performed by Cruz Family Funeral Home (Osceola, Indiana) and a Celebration of Life will be had at a later date at Trinity United Methodist. Any gifts or condolences can be sent to Michiana Center for Hospice.

Betty was a very dear person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her! A sweet Christian servant that all who knew her acknowledges! Her humor, her sweet laughter. She never wavered! While we all mourn her passing we also know where she is: pain free and in perfect health at the Throne of Jesus her Lord. Our loss is heaven“s gain and she was welcomed home by Jesus with His praise" well done, good and faithful daughter!"
