Betty Jo Brown Howell, age 90, of Westmoreland, TN, was called home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2025. She was born March 11, 1934 to the late Joe Leslie Brown and Vera Williams Brown in Bethpage, TN.
Betty grew up on a farm and learned the meaning of hard work. She was the last of six children, Homer Brown, Mary (Howard) Perry, Marie (Rolin) Perry, Goldie (Charles) Durham, Lucille Rhea Chandler. All preceded her in death.
Betty attended Bethpage Elementary School and Westmoreland High School, Class of 1953. She greatly loved to talk to and remember her classmates that she grew up with. After high school she moved to Indianapolis to work with her sister, but shortly after moved back to her home in Tennessee, where she married and had a family and remained for the rest of her days.
She attended Providence Church, New Hope Church and Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. She was saved as a young woman at Siloam Church and was baptized into the Church and has always had a great concern for the Church and its future.
She met her husband, Bobby Franklin Howell, in high school and they married April 21, 1956 and to this union one child was born, Gary Martin Howell.
She worked at Yale and Town, Gapco, Shirt Factories in Westmoreland and Lafayette, Flex Tech, and she was a homemaker for all her adult life.
She loved quilting, canning, working in flowers, going to Auctions with Bobby, The Primitive Quartet and trips to Hominy Valley, NC, but most of all she loved her Lord and her family. She was a good Christian woman that loved to call, talk and check on her friends, neighbors and her family.
In addition to her parents and siblings, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bobby; her great-granddaughter, Jessica Mae Howell; her in-laws, Charlie and Lucille Howell; her sisters-in-law, Myrtle (Ray) Davis and Patricia Howell.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Suzanne) Howell of Westmoreland; her grandson, Brandon (Tonia) Howell of Westmoreland; her great-granddaughters, Bailey (Evan) Begley of Huntsville, AL and Lindsey Howell (Jed Harper) of Westmoreland; her great-great-grandson, Spencer James Begley of Huntsville, AL; her granddaughter, Angel Harrison and her family of Castalian Springs; her sister-in-law, Willie Howell of Westmoreland; her brother-in-law, Jim Howell of Westmoreland; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral services for Ms. Howell will be conducted on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 1PM from Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Blackwell and Bro. Brandon Howell officiating. Interment will follow in the Siloam Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Evan Begley, Kelly Howell, Anthony Blackwell, Kenny Sullivan, Mike Gorham and Bennie Davis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jed Harper, Cecil Perry, Harvey Perry, Charles Durham, and Jim Howell.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 7th, 2025 from 2PM till 8PM at Woodard Funeral Home and again on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 from 9AM till 12:30PM at Woodard Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request you make donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the Siloam Cemetery Fund.
The family has entrusted Woodard Funeral Home with the care of their loved one.
